UK Parking App Crash: RingGo outage causes chaos for millions of drivers (2026)

A major parking app outage has caused chaos for UK drivers this morning, with thousands reporting issues and facing potential fines. The RingGo app, a go-to for over 21 million users, has crashed during rush hour, leaving drivers in a bind.

This popular app allows drivers to conveniently pay for parking via their phones, bypassing the need for traditional parking machines. With RingGo's widespread use in over 500 towns and cities, the outage has impacted drivers across the country.

According to Downdetector, over 1,300 reports have flooded in, indicating the app's malfunction. The issue peaked around 8 am, causing a significant disruption during a busy time for commuters.

Motorists using the app are encountering error messages, such as "We encountered a problem dealing with your request, please try again." Another message reads, "Looks like something went wrong processing your request. Try restarting the app. If the issues continues, delete and reinstall the app before trying again."

George Chamberlain, External Communications Manager at RingGo, acknowledged the issue, stating, "We are experiencing a disturbance to our internal systems, affecting the RingGo service. Restoring normal service is our top priority, and we are actively investigating."

RingGo has apologized for the inconvenience and has informed parking operators to suspend parking enforcement until the issue is resolved. However, Pay and Display machines are still operational where available.

Motorists have taken to social media to express their frustration, with some questioning why they couldn't pay for their parking. The latest developments include concerns about potential fines for drivers unable to pay due to the app outage.

But here's where it gets controversial... Some users have claimed that the customer support phone number associated with RingGo is also down, adding to the frustration and lack of support. If the issue persists, thousands of drivers could face fines, despite the app's malfunction.

On social media platform X, formerly Twitter, a disgruntled driver questioned the app's functionality, writing, "App isn't working, website isn't either. I've been trying to fix it for 30 minutes, to no avail. I wonder if fines issued during this time will be valid?"

Another user reported that the app was extremely slow and that certain functions were unavailable when trying to book a parking session.

And this is the part most people miss... With such a widespread outage, it's important to consider the potential impact on drivers' daily routines and the inconvenience caused. RingGo's large user base and its role in modern parking systems highlight the reliance on technology and the potential pitfalls when things go wrong.
